BOTIJO
The Càntir Museum in Argentona commissioned me to design a water jug.
I wanted to give it a contemporary twist, so that it would have a meaning beyond its traditional use by farm workers to cool and preserve water.
I imagined a country party where guests move around with a plate in one hand and only have the other free to drink. I already had the story, now I had to find the form.
It had to be an object that could be easily picked up and lifted and meet the necessary requirements to be a botijo: it had to be made of ceramic and breathe so that the evaporation process could take place, it had to have a spout that allowed the water to flow out with inertia so that it could be drunk easily, it had to have a larger hole for filling, and finally, it had to have a handle so that it could be easily carried. All these conditions should not be seen as elements that are added to the object, but rather the final form should express unity, presence, clarity, and simplicity, so that nothing is perceived as an addition and, at the same time, this design should meet a need.
